Ibiza opens its organic farms to the public to promote local produce

The Associació de Productors d'Agricultura Ecològica d'Eivissa i Formentera (Apaeef) has started the second edition of its programme of visits to farms of organic farmers in Ibiza with the aim of bringing local produce closer to visitors and residents and showing the work carried out on the island to increase the production of healthy food.  quality and zero-kilometre.

The proposal also seeks to highlight and promote the work of the forty farmers and processors, members of (Apaeef), and to disseminate a production model that "contributes to conserving soil health and agricultural biodiversity". This action is developed thanks to funding from the Agricultural and Fisheries Guarantee Fund of the Balearic Islands.

The programme, the organisers explain, started on 18 April with a visit to the Can Jordi de Baix organic farm, in a free day held between 10.30 am and 12 pm. With the aim of discovering the origin of the organic food that reaches the table, the activity invited participants to learn how products are grown in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.

Discover the facilities and learn about the tasks that are carried out day by day

After this first appointment, the calendar will continue on May 9 with a visit to Can Fontet, located on the Sant Antoni road; on May 16 it will be the turn of Can Zol, on the Sant Joan road; and on May 30 this edition will close at Els Corondà den Celleràs, on the Sant Miquel road. All activities will take place from 10.30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The visits will begin with a presentation of the association and its work by the farmer of the farm. Attendees will then be able to tour the facilities, learn about their characteristics and discover the tasks carried out on each farm. The day will end with a tasting of "ecolocal" products in which the properties and qualities of the ingredients used in its preparation will also be explained.

Apaeef stresses that this is an activity open to all audiences, especially designed for those who want to connect with the rural environment and promote more conscious consumption. Visits are free, although places are limited, so it is necessary to register in advance through the entity's website.

The association highlights that this experience allows participants to delve into the origin of organic food and experience the daily work of Ibiza's agroecological farms from the inside, in a commitment to strengthen the link between producers, territory and consumers.
