The 4th Ibiza and Formentera Organic Agriculture Fair highlighted agricultural biodiversity

The Association of Organic Agriculture Producers of Ibiza and Formentera (APAEF) held the IV Fair of Ecological Agriculture of Ibiza and Formentera on 10 and 16 November, an already consolidated event that this year was held under the slogan "Agricultural biodiversity", with the aim of making visible the importance of the local organic sector and its key role in the sustainability of the territory.

The fair was structured in two days open to all audiences, combining informative, training and recreational activities, and had a wide participation of producers, collaborating entities and citizens.

Saturday, November 16: workshops and reflection on water

On Saturday, November 16, the fair was inaugurated at 10:30 a.m.  with the opening of the "paradetes" of organic farmers. Throughout the morning, various workshops were held for all audiences, among which the following stood out:

  • Children's workshops organized by APAEF
  • Cuttings and seeds workshop, given by CIFP Can Marines
  • Wellness and health education workshop, by Conscious Alchemy
  • Showcooking with seasonal products directed by Marga Orell (Sabors d'Eivissa)

During the day, the debate space " Ens estam quedant sense aigua: propostes i solucions. Act!", with the participation of representatives of the Balearic agricultural sector and the moderation of José Miguel L. Romero, where the current challenges related to water management and the future of agriculture were addressed.

Sunday 10th November: III Fira Ecològica in Sant Jordi

On Sunday, November 10, the III Feria Ecològica took place  in the Plaça de Sant Jordi, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The day began with the official opening and the opening of the stalls of local organic farmers.

The program included the exhibition of the photography contest of local organic agriculture, children's workshops, an eco-conscious cooking workshop "Arrels d'Eivissa", a workshop dedicated to local varieties by Es Brot, as well as a raffle of local organic products.

In addition, several micro-xerrades focused on traditional knowledge and sustainability were carried out:

  • Vicent Palmeret spoke about the uses of the fig tree in rainfed cultivation.
  • Elki Guillén explained the gastronomic uses of the beaked fig tree.
  • Andreu Vila addressed the water footprint in agriculture.

The day concluded with a popular paella made with local organic products, which brought together the public and producers in a participatory atmosphere and support for local produce.

A meeting to strengthen the local organic sector

The IV Fair of Ecological Agriculture of Ibiza and Formentera had the collaboration of various entities and administrations and established itself as a meeting place for producers and consumers and citizens in general, reinforcing responsible consumption, the protection of agricultural biodiversity and the commitment to local organic farming.
